20th Annual World Water Ski Racing Championship / Sunfest
The World Championships are held every two years somewhere in the world and for the first time in over ten years it was to be held in the USA at Pt. Ruston in Tacoma, WA. Along with the World Water Ski Racing Championship, the SunFest Watersports Festival included Hyperlite Wakeboards and HO Skis Watersports demonstrations plus skydiving demonstrations from world renowned skydiver, Luke Aikins.
There was also to be local food, live music, beer gardens, a family fun zone, and areas to ‘meet the teams’. SunFest benefited Ben’s Fund Autism Grant – FEAT of WA, founded by Seattle Seahawks General Manager John Schneider and wife Traci.
With teams from all over the world ascending on Tacoma Washington for the World Championship of high speed water ski racing, time was running out for the group managing the race and logistics to also produce the landside part of the event. With only two months out, we were approached to help make this happen and in a location that had never had an event approved to take place at. We were able to secure the sponsorship needed to build out an entire shoreline festival including live music, Family Fun Zone, education areas, amplified sound up and down one mile of waterway, a beer garden as well as VIP experiences for guests and sponsors. We even managed to secure a large amount of in-kind media which we used to drive attendance as well as build value into sponsorship packages.
